What do I need to train to be a vet as a mature student?

Living in the UK - I am 26 years old and left school at 16 in order to travel, I am now looking at going back into education as a mature student and training to be a vet. What would be the best way to do this? Do I need A levels or is there an alternative access course I could do? And do you think I would get funding/grants/student loans to help me even though I am director of my own company (not that I take a regular wage from it), I would also love to hear from anyone who has any experience in this just how badly it affects your personal life, having kids etc. Thanks! xx
