80's cerebral movie that starts with a K on Netflix?

Last week on Netflix I came across a movie I was incredibly interested in but it didn't play on demand (meaning I would have to order the DVD) so I looked for another movie. Now I'm looking to order the movie but I can't remember the name and what it was even really about. It had to do with society and is a philosophical film from the 80's. The title had this japanese-esque or scandanavian-esque name and must have had more than 8-9 letters. The director produced a 2nd one regarding the same topic.
